Zephyr is a harmonious integration of style and versatility
“Zephyr exemplifies thoughtful design, where natural light, textures, and intelligent planning combine to elevate everyday living.” —-The Design Compound.
A once-crowded flat in the centre of Pune has been transformed into a tranquil urban retreat that skilfully combines classic comfort with modern design. This 1330-square-foot home, created by Joohie Patel, Principal Designer at The Design Compound, reimagines daily life with its thoughtful design, light-filled areas, and warm, tactile material palette.

The project was approached to build a house that would enhance the everyday lives of a family of four and satisfy their changing needs. The apartment was fully renovated while maintaining the original structure, emphasising cost-effectiveness and adaptive reuse.

The homeowners wanted their space to change as they did. The couple’s pre-teen children required flexible spaces that could develop with their interests. At the same time, the lady of the house, with her artistic sensibility, wanted an interplay of textures, colour, and proportion. The outcome is a house that fosters a sense of community while embracing individuality.

The central concept was flow and openness. Thanks to an open layout that lets natural light and air flow freely, every area feels peaceful and spacious. Combining earthy pastel hues with striking black accents created a subtle yet contemporary ambience. Clear lines, minimal clutter, and astute spatial planning ensured that every space functioned without overpowering the senses.

The floor beds in the kids’ bedrooms have built-in storage, which promotes play and provides flexibility. Open shelving provides a canvas for changing artwork and collectibles. Laminates, Duco finishes, and wallpaper were used to revitalise the existing wardrobes, adding tactile richness and blending in perfectly with the newly renovated interior.

The material palette balances longevity and simplicity with subdued shades of blush pinks, sage greens, and gentle blues layered against warm wooden textures and subtle taupes. The mood of the house is greatly influenced by the lighting, which is layered to make each area feel cosy and intimate. Contemporary art, carefully chosen accessories, and soft furnishings add a final layer of depth, transforming the area into a tasteful fusion of usage and style.
