Tusker Katha launches Kathakali-inspired Layam collection

Tusker Katha’s Layam collection blends Kathakali-inspired design with Kerala craftsmanship, featuring unique furniture pieces.

Inspired by the rich traditions of Kathakali and Kerala design, Tusker Katha, a well-known furniture design and craft studio in Bangalore, presents their newest collection, the Layam, honouring Indian culture, artistry, and craftsmanship.

There are several outstanding works in the Layam Collection. The Thiranottam Bed draws inspiration from Kathakali, the traditional dance of Kerala. Its headboard is designed to resemble the gesture used by a Kathakali artist to hold the upper edge of the curtain before a performance. The handle design of the Abhinaya Bedside Table is inspired by the unique white makeup of the Kathakali dancers, incorporating the cultural narrative into its practical form.

Details reminiscent of traditional Kerala furniture generate a sense of nostalgia and cosines with the Kochi Bed and Side Tables. Their double-rounded beadings, curves, and delicately turned accents reflect classic craftsmanship. Layam Dining Set and Console Units are made of wood and brass. With stain-resistant, washable textiles on the seats and front of the backrests and intricately embroidered fabric on the backs, the dining set merges functionality with style. A chest of drawers behind the dining table offers a distinctive touch with its wooden embellishments evoking musical beats.

A prime example of the elegance of handcrafted details is the Gubbi Sofa, which is embellished with a block-printed temple border design. Because of its upholstery, which is a neutral beige colour, it can be part of any decor.
