Traditional architecture meets modern minimalist design ethos
“The design draws inspiration from traditional architectural elements inspiring modern minimalist design.”
The design philosophy and approach taken by a New Delhi-based architecture firm, 42mm Architecture, for a boutique jewellery store in New Delhi. The firm’s goal was to create an interior design that exudes luxury and royalty, with a traditional design ethos that appeals not only to the local Jaipur culture but also has a universal appeal.
To achieve this, the firm chose a minimalist design approach with a monolithic singular treatment that features walls clad in Indian stone. The design draws inspiration from traditional architectural elements, such as decorative arches and floor inlays, and translates them into a modern and minimal design vocabulary.
The major material used throughout the main display area is stone in a natural raw finish with accents of polished brass finish. This approach creates a monochromatic colour scheme that makes the jewels stand out the most. The visitor’s lounge and director’s cabin have been intentionally kept subtle to direct the customer’s focus towards the main display area.
The store’s overall design reflects the brand’s tagline, “Crafted for Eternity,” and its unique selling point of “Modern Meenakar.” This approach to design ensures that the store’s interior and the brand’s identity are seamlessly integrated, creating a cohesive and memorable experience for customers.
42mm Architecture has successfully created a minimalist design that exudes luxury and royalty while incorporating traditional architectural elements. Using stone as the primary material and following a monochromatic colour scheme, the store’s design allows the jewellery to take centre stage. The overall design reflects the brand’s identity, creating a cohesive and memorable customer experience.
