Studio Jane’s Mrignain merges tradition and modern luxury
Mrignain Residence by Studio Jane features bespoke designs that merge traditional elements with contemporary luxury to create a one-of-a-kind living experience.
Mrignain is a 3200 square foot duplex property developed by Studio Jane in cooperation with Royal Home Spaces and located in Mumbai’s quiet suburb of Juhu. The concept strives to combine ethnic design aspects with contemporary aesthetics, inspired by the client’s desire for a magnificent yet modern home. Studio Jane faced significant difficulty in optimising the 8.5-foot ceiling height while adhering to Vastu principles, which ensured both practicality and aesthetics.
The design approach aims to combine the client’s identity with current components. The area is thoughtfully designed to represent the personality of the residents while also improving functionality. Vertical space solutions and custom features are used throughout to create a living environment that is both visually appealing and emotionally meaningful. The entrance foyer takes guests to five personal bedrooms and one guest bedroom, which are divided across two stories. The common areas are on the right, with a central marble staircase opposite the main entry connecting both levels, lending an impression of grandeur to the residence.
A stunning gold-paneled PU entrance door creates a strong first impression. It appears to be a single piece, but it is divided into three portions with 3D effects and wood scoops, all finished in matte gold lacquer. The door’s punctures allow light to pass from inside to outside, creating the tone for the entire house.
The living space is separated into four sections: the living room, the bar, the dining area and the entertainment room. The combination of bold colours and traditional elements results in a classy, lively space. Custom-designed sofas and an adjustable height table provide a polished, coherent style, while Jaipur Rugs’ Manchaha carpet adds a touch of history.
The primary bedroom has lime plaster and oak flooring, and the muted tones add to the room’s warmth and elegance. Custom vertical lights and fluted wardrobe doors add personal touches. The parents’ bedroom combines colonial antiquity with Indian aesthetics, and a collection of monochromatic images illustrates the family’s story.
The children’s rooms are designed to reflect their personalities, with intelligent space-saving features. The daughter’s room includes a Murphy bed built into the wall, providing plenty of space for play. The son’s bedroom is decorated with a brilliant tangerine colour and sports themes to reflect his passion for athletics.
The guest bedroom makes the most of its space with a daybed and vivid Indian motifs, as well as a wardrobe behind the accent chair. The cane parts in the design provide traditional elegance while being functional. Project Mrignain demonstrates how design can elicit emotions and establish meaningful connections. It is an elegant combination of elegance, functionality, and personalisation, transforming a house into a welcoming home that reflects the family’s distinct taste and modern lifestyle.
