Masego balances artistic innovation with cultural elegance
“Masego features tradition and creativity, celebrating culture, joy, and heritage to create a home that reflects the owner’s personality.”—Farah Agarwal, Principal Designer, Chestnut Storeys.
Masego, a 5000-square-foot, three-story bungalow in Bengaluru designed by Chestnut Storeys for a classical Bharatnatyam dancer, combines innovation, culture, and artistry. In Tswana, the name “blessings” represents the home’s spirit of joy, peace, and heritage, creating a unique haven for the homeowner.
The design celebrates life with brilliant hues, natural light, and cultural diversity that blend smoothly. The house is more than simply a place to live; it is also a creative workshop full of charm. Ethnic motifs, ranging from elaborate floor tiles to watercolour-splash wallpapers, are carefully integrated throughout the design. These features bring personality and dimension to any home when paired with custom modern furniture. The meticulously picked furniture, such as comfortable couches and dramatic light fixtures, combines practicality and artistic sense, while the vivid décor brings the rooms together cohesively.
The vast open-air dance room on the upper level is one of the home’s most notable features. This studio, filled with light and furnished with vintage wooden furniture, serves as a practice area and a monument to the homeowner’s cultural history. The design honours the dance form’s rich history while providing a practical area for artistic expression.
The bottom floor sets the tone with a subtle elegance. The entrance is decorated with cold cement and marble hues, complemented by lush flora and ancient Mangalore tiles, creating a warm, nostalgic touch. The formal living room is sophisticated, with fun elements like antique dance figures and luxurious sofas. The neighbouring lounge leads into a sophisticated bar area with a jewel-green marble bar and lush foliage, giving an excellent backdrop for relaxing nights.
The property’s first floor continues the artistic motif with vibrant family lounges, a tranquil master bedroom, and spaces that reflect the homeowner’s ancestry. An illustrated artwork and an art piece depicting Lord Vishnu reflect the Tamil heritage.
The children’s rooms are lively and stylish, and the terrace dancing space is excellent for practising and contemplating. Masego is a remarkable design masterpiece, with each room telling a unique tale about the homeowner’s bright character and artistic path.
