Jaipur home is a medley of contemporary architecture and cultural heritage
“We aimed to create a timeless, pleasant sanctuary that skilfully combined Jaipur’s rich cultural heritage with contemporary design.”—-Ar. Rajkumar Kumawat, Founder & Principal Architect of Rajkumar Architects.
Ar. Rajkumar Kumawat, Founder & Principal Architect of Rajkumar Architects, is known for his brilliant fusion of local culture with modern architecture. He designed a home for a Jaipur family embodying these. The end product is a property that honours Jaipur’s rich heritage and the grandeur of its monuments while embracing modern aesthetics.
The exterior sets the tone with crisp white walls, sharp angles, and cantilevered balconies decorated with flora, resulting in a dynamic interplay of light and shade. Inside, verdant surroundings and a peaceful water body provide a relaxing welcome. Strategically placed lighting transforms the exteriors into a dynamic sculpture at night.
The interior designs strike a balance between comfort and luxury. A magnificent entrance foyer has neutral tones and custom sculptures. The double-height living area, which includes an adjoining dining area, exudes flair with handmade sofas and a greenery-backed TV cabinet that adds a biophilic element.
The dining area features a glass-top table with brass accents that complement sleek chairs and high-quality materials like marble. Traditional motifs inspire lighting fixtures, which add cultural flair. A brass shelf serves as a partition and a storage unit, elegantly combining aesthetics and usefulness.
Family lounges reflect art galleries, displaying cultural tales through monochromatic family frames, statement lighting, and traditional artworks. Bold accessories, like a brilliant yellow armchair, add individuality to the interiors.
The bedrooms are personalised to the residents’ preferences. One uses mustard and soft yellow tones with classical themes, while another combines neutral beiges and mild greens with a balcony for nature-inspired leisure.
A third bedroom features muted tones and pastel pinks, complemented by red carpets and floral textiles that evoke Jaipur’s heritage.
The patio is transformed into a relaxing hideaway with jute-rope furnishings under a pergola, a small bar, a metal sculpture centrepiece, rich foliage, and a flowing water feature, creating a peaceful sanctuary. This home blends heritage and contemporary, with every detail striking a tale of tradition and beauty.
