“House of Bridges is a celebration of modern family living, harmonising tradition with the evolving needs of today’s joint families.”——Team3.

House of Bridges reimagines the traditional Indian home, borrowing influence from the traditional haveli design while catering to the changing demands of a modern joint family. The house, built on a three-acre plot near the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway, combines familial connectivity and individual solitude to meet the needs of three siblings and their families.

The design religiously integrates separate sub-units connected by screened bridges, preserving the essence of a combined family while allowing for individual freedom. These bridges provide physical and visual connections and function as shaded walkways, resulting in an interplay of light and shadow while improving ventilation. The facade, a dynamic feature with clean lines and modern design, keeps the massive structure visually appealing.

The ground floor is designed for the elderly, with easy access to common areas and gardens, while the upper floors provide privacy for younger family members. A covered inner courtyard is a recreational place during the hot summer, exhibiting meticulous climate consideration. The house’s layout allows for continuous air circulation, linking the indoors to the outside landscape.

The selection of materials combines luxury and environmental sensitivity. Deep wood tones and a neutral palette provide a warm and elegant atmosphere, while the marble flooring reflects natural light. Extensive landscaping strengthens the connection between the home and nature, promoting a peaceful living environment.

Sustainability is at the forefront of the design, with elements such as insulated glazing, exterior hollow walls, and sun-shading louvres that limit solar heat gain while increasing efficiency. The strategic arrangement of courts, overhanging structures, and shaded areas encourages natural cooling and cross-ventilation, decreasing the demand for mechanical systems. A water feature integrated into the environment contributes to the natural cooling effect, assuring comfort.

House of Bridges provides a modern approach to joint family living while honouring Haveli architectural traditions through innovative spatial planning and sustainable design.
