The newest creation from Ajay Arya of Square Designs is a stylish restaurant named Madam G. Madam G is a fashion icon in Kolkata, situated near Elgin Road on Lee Road. She is a master craftswoman with a keen eye for detail. Established by Deisleen Sethi, the restaurant occupies 3000 square feet and combines style, practicality, and artistic vision. This restaurant blends an exceptional global and contemporary setting with the handpicked beverages, tableware, and cuisine selections of renowned table scape artist Eeshan Kashyap. Madam G presents a beautiful balance of both modern and rustic, a rainbow of diamonds.
Madam G is all about clean, basic decor and serves modern Indian molecular fusion food in a setting that is reminiscent of an international restaurant. The restaurant’s contemporary décor, which revolves around geometric shapes, 3D patterns, and a blend of luxury finishes, is a metaphor for modern elegance.
The rows of vibrant tin jars arranged in grid counters grab the eye as soon as you walk into the welcome area. It welcomes visitors to the area with a feel reminiscent of tea jars filled with candies from all across India. The handcrafted elegance of a marble-topped rattan welcome counter contrasts with the rough, late tiles. The interesting material palette of Madam G displays an interplay between different textures and finishes. Consider materials like stone, wicker, leather, and metallic finishes. This interaction is brilliantly displayed with the central room’s ceiling. The ceiling draws your attention with its charcoal shade and open trellis-textured fabric, that was designed by Kashyap.
The furniture is also beautifully designed in keeping with the current “Curvy Furniture” trend, further expressing the modern and contemporary concept. There are so many eye-catching details throughout the restaurant. For instance, the lengthy bar with the gorgeous Statuario surface is a sophisticated and classy symphony. When you peek inside, there are integrated wine cooler slits.
Ajay Arya’s creative vision is brilliantly displayed in the lights of Madam G. The lighting in the room creates an eclectic visual cocktail, whether it’s the custom boat-shaped light over the bar or the inverted Matka Lights spanning the ceiling.
Clean and minimalist feelings permeate the private dining area with its abstract rectangular Terrazzo black and white flooring. The sliding doors, which have hand-painted Bengali poetry on one side and Ikat designs on the other, contrast sharply with this.
The focal point of the restaurant is the feature wall in the dining section, which was painted by Drishleen Sethi and Eeshan Kashyap. The cheerful wall with its shades of orange, red, and yellow is welcoming and makes you feel happy, especially when you’re eating.
Madam G is a poetic symphony of experimentation, allowing each area have its own unique personality while integrating it all together to form a cohesive whole.
