Equinox blends Dutch ethos with Indian elegance
Equinox is a harmonious integration of cultures, where Dutch minimalism meets Indian culture in a smooth and graceful design.”—-Studio Nilasha.
Equinox, a spectacular high-rise apartment that redefines contemporary living, is located at the heart of Hyderabad and is where tradition meets modernity. Equinox, designed by Nilasha, Principal Architect of her eponymous office, is a harmonious cultural synthesis that combines the pragmatism of Indian urban living with Dutch-inspired aesthetics. Designed for a young couple—Shivangi, a Hyderabad local, and her husband Danny from the Netherlands—the room has clean lines, a neutral palette, and efficient design, mixing elements of luxury and comfort to create a one-of-a-kind house.

Equinox spans 6,500 square feet and combines the charm of New York loft-style living with the warmth of Dutch décor. The panoramic views of Hyderabad’s skyline serve as a backdrop to this carefully constructed environment, with each area fluidly transitioning into the next. The design epitomises simplicity, with big, open rooms highlighting the couple’s cultural backgrounds. A muted palette with varied tones of brown adds depth while keeping the interiors pleasant and clutter-free.

The couple’s concept wanted a room that reflected Danny’s European heritage and Shivangi’s current Indian roots. With this in mind, Nilasha built a home with minimal walls and an open-plan concept. The bedrooms are the only spaces with solid walls, which adds to the impression of openness and flow. The huge open kitchen, centred around a prominent island, is a focal point of the design, serving as a gathering place for the family for meals and socialising. SCASA designed the kitchen to be sleek and basic, with equipment integrated into the back wall to maintain the island as the focal point.

The children’s wing provides a pleasant contrast to the rest of the house. This space, designed in light oak wood and delicate blush tones, exudes timeless elegance while accommodating Shivangi and Danny’s twin girls’ requirements as they grow up. The playroom with a ball pit, reading nooks, and secret storage shows the design’s future-proofing strategy. Custom furniture, such as flexible cots, ensures the area grows alongside the children.

Every component of Equinox is thoughtfully designed. The apartment balances aesthetics and functionality from custom-made furniture by local merchants to a refined material palette of American walnut, marble, and textured fabrics. Subtle geometric patterns and fluted textures offer dimension to the space while maintaining the basic style.

Equinox is essentially a celebration of balance—cultural, aesthetic, and functional—creating a home that reflects the family’s journey and makes a statement about modern living.
