The Bengaluru penthouse, designed by Kumpal Vaid, features quirky, nature-inspired decor suitable for modern living.

Nestled in the heart of Bengaluru, the Eden House penthouse is a magnificent blend of nature, modernity, and joyous living. Kumpal Vaid, the founder of Purple Backyard, designed this 10,000-square-foot property, which spans two levels and includes a rooftop patio with a swimming pool. The space, created for a family of three, is a whimsical celebration of life, travel, and personal flair that will evolve to meet the family’s evolving requirements. Drawing inspiration from Garden City, the residence incorporates natural motifs to connect each space.

Eden House’s design philosophy of “imperfection as perfection” is essential. The room is designed to evolve and develop with its occupants, displaying a mix of bold and balanced features that create a seamless flow. Rich materials and jewel tones bring vitality without overloading the senses, creating an elegant yet relaxing mood throughout.

Upon entering, the eye is drawn to the distinctive Vietnamese white marble flooring with organic designs and green marble inlays. The unstructured design mirrors nature’s spontaneous forms, laying the groundwork for the remainder of the home. Despite its futuristic appearance, the home is packed with nature-inspired accents around every corner, making the interior feel alive and connected to the world outside.

The first lounge space is hidden behind a fluted-glass door with tropical plant decor and a yellow desk that welcomes the outdoors in. This versatile room converts from a family parlour to a work-from-home area or guest accommodations, complete with a couch bed and an en-suite bathroom. It’s an excellent example of how design changes in response to the demands of the family.

The main living area is an exploration of colour, texture, and form. A custom gradient bar, built in cooperation with Arjunvir Gujral, complements powder blue sofas, lilac armchairs, and a dusty pink ottoman. The bar, with its delicate gold frame, offers glamour without going overboard. A one-of-a-kind painting by House of Beserk unifies the space, while custom furniture, such as Sancal’s face-designed side tables, elevates the design aesthetic.

The dining area is centrally set and connects the kitchen and living room, with a handcrafted terrazzo dining table by Rawsteen. A pendant lamp designed by LZF simulates unfurling ferns, adding to the natural mood. The dusty teal modular kitchen is ideal for entertaining, while a sequence of arches behind it houses goods and concealed storage.

The apartment culminates in a rooftop terrace with an azure pool and lounge space, providing a serene respite. Red-striped sofas, amphitheatre-style stairs, and a jewel-toned mosaic around the pool create a fun but sumptuous ambience. The terrace offers breathtaking views of Bengaluru’s skyline and changes into a sultry, inviting area as the sun sets, creating a true slice of heaven above the city.
