A penthouse for Jeweller Joy Alukkas
“Step into a world of refined luxury where elegance and grandeur harmoniously blend, creating a timeless masterpiece that speaks to the heart and captivates the senses.” Meera Pyarelal, Founder and Interior Designer, Temple Town.
The foyer features a prominent cane and wood chest, showcasing a stunning vintage mirror and botanical accents that cleverly double as storage. Vibrant colours, exquisite period furniture, and layered fabrics define the penthouse’s glamorous style.
Entering the formal living room, the eye is immediately drawn to a repurposed old door from a Haveli in Jaipur, flanked by two Regency chairs upholstered in white and gold silk, reminiscent of the quintessential Kerala textile. The drawing room is adorned with a sumptuous chesterfield in heavy green velvet, a Dutch colonial divan adorned with silk cushions, a traditional South Indian oonjal (swing), and a set of brass and wooden centre tables. This intriguing mix of design classics is elevated by a console table embellished with ornate brass mirrors, adding a touch of glamour and enhancing the sense of space. Charcoal on silk artwork by the award-winning artist Suneesh from Kerala graces the wall above the divan, injecting an element of unexpected allure to the interior.
The dining room seamlessly blends classic elements with playful twists. The freshness of Lewis & Wood wallpaper and a brass mirror is a stunning contrast to the traditional Louis XVI-style furniture. A bespoke brass pendant light in a banana leaf elegantly illuminates the 10-seater dining table, adorned with beautiful crockery from the Rosabagh series by Good Earth, brass cutlery, and customized linen napkins.
The master bedroom exudes European-inspired elegance, with plaster mouldings, black and white prints sourced from Rome, and tropical-patterned bed linen that perfectly complements the luxurious master suite. The balcony adjoining the master bedroom provides sweeping views of the city, adding an extra touch of grandeur.
The kitchen, custom-designed in a pastel green shade with a satuario marble backsplash and brass fittings, exudes timeless elegance. It’s a delightful sight to behold first thing in the morning. The breakfast station offers functionality and aesthetics, with ample storage and perfectly scaled door panels, complemented by cane lights and bar stools upholstered in Ajrakh print silk fabric.
The main balcony reflects the occupants’ love for greenery, featuring a wall adorned with potted plants. A nostalgic plantation chair adds a touch of sentimentality to the space. Every aspect of this pied-à-terre is inspiring, from the meticulously designed interiors to the abundant natural light and evocative furnishings. The key objective was to instil an appreciation for vintage, antique, and global influences, creating a space that embodies a true sense of character.
