Maison Blanche, a 1,600-square-foot duplex in Pune designed by architects Komal Mittal and Ninada Kashyap, exemplifies a perfect balance of aesthetics and utility. Designed during the lockdown, the residence meets the client’s requirement for a multi-functional space for working, relaxing, exercising, dining, and entertainment. Maison Blanche’s modern farmhouse is a delicate balance of comfort and style.
The interior design is a symphony of warm tones of timbre and pristine white, accented with delicate pastel shades of creamy ivory, dusky pink, and greyish blue. This earthy hue, natural materials, and rustic finishes produce a relaxing and inviting atmosphere.
The doorway, with classic blue and white plates placed above a spotless console table, sets the tone for the entire house. The great hall connects the living, dining, and kitchen areas while remaining open and airy. The living area has a gorgeous fireplace, ivory and beige rugs, and a signature mirror that reflects light and space, creating a welcoming ambience.
The kitchen, the centre of the home, combines utility and charm. It is predominantly white, with brick tiling, a hooded chimney, and a wooden-white island cum breakfast bar lit by vintage lights. A parallel feature wall filled with whimsical art adds charm, while the open-air terrace bar with natural stone finishes invites outdoor leisure.
The upper floor, designed for fitness and meditation, is a multi-functional space that may be approached through a wooden staircase. Originally intended for two bedrooms, it provides double-height openness, increasing the home’s size.
The master bedroom exudes tranquillity with a beige, white, and natural wood colour scheme highlighted by olive green. It has a large window seat and sliding louvre doors leading to the gym. The ballet-inspired room for the youngest occupant, which includes a ballet barre and mirror background, blends charm and functionality while encouraging creativity.
