Nestled near the serene Rabindra Sarobar in Kolkata lies a masterpiece of design and opulence – an 8000 sq.ft. Banquet Hall that is poised to redefine celebrations. Crafted by Ajay Arya of A Square Designs, Kolkata, this exquisite space is a tribute to classic elegance with a contemporary twist.
Perched on the first floor of the historic Bengal Rowing Club, this banquet hall boasts enchanting views of the tranquil lakeside and lush tropical greens. The design seamlessly marries functionality with aesthetic charm, offering three distinct banquet halls that can either stand-alone or merge into one grand space. An open-to-sky terrace annexe adds an element of al fresco allure.
Setting the tone is the arresting black Marqina Italian Marble flooring juxtaposed against elegant white marble in a captivating checkered pattern. The walls are adorned with rich Burl veneers and solid teak wood, enhanced with acoustic panelling and graceful marble flutes. Chandeliers in brass with black shards elegantly echo the flooring’s beauty, while light grey velvet drapes paired with delicate white sheers lend an air of refined sophistication.
The pièce de résistance is the feature wall, a harmonious blend of blues and greens that pay homage to the nearby lakeside landscape and its vibrant ecosystem. Lighting plays a pivotal role, with layers of diffused cube lights complemented by strategic downlighting and accent chandeliers, all fully dimmable to cater to every event’s mood.
The transformation was no small feat, involving structural modifications to amplify volume and connect the three adjoining halls and central terraces. A heightened floor-to-ceiling height was achieved to exude spaciousness, while larger external windows frame breathtaking lake vistas and verdant surroundings.
The club’s vision of creating a luxurious haven for members to celebrate their special occasions fueled the project. With a rich history that includes prominent families like the Birlas and Bangurs, the club’s legacy demanded an interior that resonated with its iconic status. As a culinary haven renowned for its all-vegetarian delights, the Bengal Rowing Club desired an interior that matched its gastronomic prowess.
